August 2016 Favourites

31 August 2016

I'm so glad I started doing favourite posts. I love writing them up. So soz if you hate them (not really I don't really care haha). This month seems to have been crazy busy. I'm hoping September is a bit quieter. Probably not though. Life with my family is always go go go. Never thought I'd say this as I'm a total sun worshipper summer girl but I'm kinda looking forward to autumn. Cosy jumpers are the best. Plus beanie weather means I don't have to do my hair.

Anyways here's what I've been loving this month along with the billions of pain au chocolats I ate in France

August 2016 Favourites

Alpro Dark Chocolate Almond Milk

This is honestly my favourite thing this year. It's the best thing I have ever discovered whilst out shopping. I'm trying to cut down on my dairy and this makes up for the lack of frijj milkshakes in my life. It tastes like heaven. It's so hard to not drink the whole carton in a day. I've also managed to get my mum hooked on it and I made my brother try it without telling him what it was. He loved it and was then outraged when he realised it was my "weird" milk. Seriously go get some. You'll thank me.

August 2016 Favourites

Rosie For Autograph Transluscent Finishing Powder

When I got my sky internets I got a £100 M&S voucher which I used solely to buy makeup like the sensible adult I am. I needed a new powder and this was there so I just went for it and hoped for the best because why not? The packaging is a bitch to photograph (I may have ranted on twitter about damn mirrored packaging) but it's such a good powder. It leaves my skin feeling like silk and keeps everything in place. I use it for prepping my eyes for my eyeliner and it means that it doesn't budge. None of that smudging onto my upper lid business. Only downside is it smells a bit like old people toiletries.

Models Own Polish for Tans in Shades

This is a weird favourite. I hate Models Own polishes which sucks because they have an incredible colour range. I've tried various and they all chip so easily. Why is this in my faves you ask? The colour. It makes my tan look epic and I love it. I tried a different top coat this time and it fared better than usual so for that reason as well as making my tan look bitchin it made it to my faves. Also my mum was just happy I wasn't wearing black again - she hates it for some reason

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Beso

I think Stila lipsticks have made it to my favourites every month since I started doing them in June. I've fallen back in love with a red lip. It used to be all I wore and now it's back and I'm so happy. Red lip, winged liner and pyjamas/giant hoodie was always my go to look at uni. Beso is such a gorgeous red, its comfortable to wear and it lasts so well. It survived me shoving pizza hut into my face the other day. I may have to get this as well as my beloved baci in full size soon (review on the Eternal Love Set)

Illamasqua Precision ink Liner in Abyss

I did a full review on this the other day so I want drone on but this eyeliner is life. Survived 40 hours and gives me fabulous wings. What more could you want?

Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Liner

This sucks for wings. It flakes off or smudges. Buuut it is perfect for your waterline. It's the only liner I ever use on my waterline and the staying power in incredible. Not quite Illamasqua precision ink but damn good for £7.99. I use this over UD Perversion most days. Also the pot lasts forever. Like I should probably throw this one out its that old but meh. It doesn't irritate my eyes so I'll live.

Lancome Advanced Génifique Serum

I got this adorable lil sample when I spent a fortune on makeup and moisturiser. I gave it a whirl not really expecting much but I love it. I whack it on in the mornings before doing my makuep and it feels awesome. It brightens my face and adds some needed moisture. So gutted I fell in love though because I'm not gonna be able to afford more *cries*.

What have you been loving this month?

Carex Love Hearts Soap

29 August 2016

My Dad hates coming to my house because all my soap smells edible. I've never known a man get so angry about soap that smells like delicious food. It's hilarious. My current kitchen soap smells like vanilla cookies. I was a little bit hesitant about trying this one though because I'm not a massive fan of the bubblegum one but oh my god you need this in your life.

Carex love hearts soap

Carex have a range of edible smelling soaps in their fun editions. This Love hearts one is definitely my favourite. It smells fizzy. How do you even make soap smell fizzy? It must be magic. It seriously makes your hands smell like actual love hearts. My mum always laughs at me because I always come out of the bathroom sniffing my hands. It honestly makes washing your hands soo magical. Everyone needs to smell like love hearts. It would make the world a better place.

Ollie is obsessed with the bubblegum one and loves the antibacterial hand gel version. So um Carex when are you gonna do a Love hearts hand sanitiser because I would be all over that shit.

I'm not sure if it takes the top spot from the Wilko Rhubarb & vanilla soap which smells exactly like rhubarb & custard sweets but its pretty damn close. I grabbed another 2 bottles whilst it was on offer in Boots the other day and my dad is planning some sort of protest for soap that doesn't smell like sweets. It will be a cold day in hell before I give up my delicious smelling soap.  One of the very few plus sides to being an adult is getting to choose the fun soaps and eating cake for breakfast with no one to tell you you cant..

What is your favourite soap?

Cheerz Photo Box

27 August 2016

I love taking photos and I love a good selfie with friends and family. However, I hate either having to go through the billions of snaps on my phone to show someone or faff about printing them off. That's how I discovered Cheerz. I've ordered from them before (post here) and had to make another order recently.

Cheerz Photo Box

This time I decided to order the Cheerz box which is £13. For this you get 30 adorable 10x8cm polaroids in a cute handy box. You can add a border colour to your pictures but I prefer white and you can also add text to the bottom of the pictures if you fancy.

It's super simple. Choose the product you want and then you can upload pictures from your instagram, facebook, computer and phone. The hardest part for me was choosing which pictures to get. As you can see me and my brother are pretty damn vain. I also got some of my holiday to Barcelona, family holidays and my graduation. They look soo good. I love them.

I'm so tempted to get some of my fave blog photos printed off to go in the scrapbook I plan on starting but I dunno. I'll probably make another order soon anyway.

Now I have to actually get round to putting some up in my room.

You can also use the code BETMJ8 to get £4 off your order if you fancy making an order.

Illamasqua Precision Ink Liquid Liner

26 August 2016

Eyeliner is my biggest makeup addiction. Well I own more lipstick but if I could only use one item it would always be eyeliner. Hands down. In fact, if I'm being lazy I quite often just whack on some eyeliner and mascara. I wear it to play basketball because I'm a fierce queen who rocks those wings and wont be tamed. My family ask if I'm ill if I haven't done my wings. They're my signature look. My eyes look so naked without them.

Illamasqua Precision Ink Liner review

I've used the Rimmel Exaggerate Liner for agessss. Once I found one that I could get a decent wing with I didn't really stray. I knew it worked for me and that was good enough. However, I have recently been adventurous and tried some new ones. I picked up the Lancome grandiose liner a while ago and now I am obsessed with the Illamasqua Precision Ink Liquid Liner.

I got the precision ink liner in my July You Beauty Box and it was love at first swipe. I normally prefer the sturdier, slightly chunkier nibs. I feel like I don't have the control I like with the thin ones but this is just perfect. It's opaque in one swipe and I can get sharp wings and smooth lines. My main issue now is just getting the angles of both wings similar (that's what side fringes were invented for anyway).

It's waterproof and I am being serious when I say this baby has some serious staying power. If you follow me on twitter & instagram you may have seen that I recently wore this to travel to France. I put it on at 6:30am Sunday morning. Travelled to Worcester to watch my brother in a wheelchair basketball competition. It was stupidly hot. I sweated. We then got in the car to drive to Portsmouth. I fell asleep on said journey. We got on the ferry at 10:45 for a 7 hour crossing which we slept through with lots of tossing & turning. We arrived Monday morning and drove another 2 hours to my nans (I may have also dozed off on this journey). I then spent all Monday wearing the same eyeliner and finally took it off at 10pm Monday night. It was still perfect. Not a single smudge. No fading. Magic. 40 hours of wear is pretty damn impressive.

Illamasqua Precision Ink Liquid Liner
The middle picture was when we first arrived at my nans and the last picture was just before I took it off. Lets just ignore my exhausted face.

I also wore it during a wheelchair basketball competition which was played in a hall which could only be compared to Satans ass. It was soo hot I thought I was gonna melt into a puddle. Eyeliner wasn't fazed though.

The only downside to this liner is it's glossy however that being said it doesn't really bother me and I will gladly pay the £20.50 pricetag when I run out. I'm so glad I got it in my £8.45 You beauty box though. Bargain.

What is your favourite liquid liner?

Book Review// Tell No One by Harlan Coben

24 August 2016

My Twinny Sarah did a post on the TV show The Five a while ago and told me I should watch it. As soon as I started it I was hooked. I binge watched it on Now TV in about 2 days and loved it. It kept me engaged until the end and I was constantly trying to guess who had done it. I was wrong. I then made my family watch it and it was a huge hit. I then realised I had seen Harlan Coben's name before on my mums bookcase. I nicked the book and decided to give it a whirl.

Tell No One by Harlan Coben review
(Mug - Welsh Girl Problems)
Tell No One

"Eight years ago David Beck was knocked unconscious and left for dead, and his wife Elizabeth was kidnapped and murdered.

Dr Beck re-lived the horror of what happened that day every day of his life. Then one afternoon, he receives an anonymous email telling him to log on to a certain website. The screen opens on to a web cam - and it is Elizabeth's image he sees.

As Beck tries to find out if Elizabeth is truly alive, and what really happened the night she disappeared, the FBI are trying to pin Elizabeth's murder on him. And everyone he turns to seems to end up dead..."

First off I love Harlans style of writing. His descriptions are soo good and I actually laughed out loud at some of them. I also loved the way he described his Grandfathers Alzheimer's.

This book is written in the first person from Beck's point of view which I'm not normally a fan of but this just worked and he's such a likeable character. His and Elizabeth's relationship was a tad vom inducing but he admits it which made me like him even more. I also love Beck's best friend Shauna. She's just so fiery and hilarious.

I was gripped from the very first chapter and it never slows down. I was engrossed until the very last page and I read it in about 8 hours. I could not put it down. My mum had to confiscate it so I would go to sleep. It was a tad stressful trying to work out how everything links together. Is Elizabeth alive? Will Beck be found guilty of murder? How the hell is he going to get out of this?

If you love to be kept guessing then I would definitely recommend this book?

Have you read any of Harlan Cobens books?
Now I have to try and decide which ones to get next

August 2016 You Beauty Box

9 August 2016

Another month another You Beauty Box. I have to say I wasn't really excited by any of this months choices. But I thought I'd stick with it and use it as a way of trying new things for the grand total of £8.95. It was all skincare this month and although I am getting into it I would love to see more makeup in the box choices. Just give feed my makeup addiction please.

Bloom & Blossom Rejuvenating Facial Spritz (40ml)

This facial spritz is supposed to be great for conditioning the skin due to containing collagen boosting ingredients as well as aloe vera and lime oil to help with skin tone, wrinkles and dark shadows. It can be used daily or whenever your skin needs a refreshing spritz. This will be great for the warmer weather as it is soo refreshing. It does smell a bit antiseptic though. Kinda reminds me of dettol. It can also be used as a makeup setting spray which I'm excited to try as I don't actually own one yet.

Sönd Revitalising Face Serum (5ml)

This is supposed to be great for dry and sensitive skin. My face always seems to need hydration so this should be perfect and my skin does feel much softer after use. It also claims to help minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Another massive plus is it's fragrance free. The size of this sample will be perfect for chucking in my makeup bag when I go away which I seem to do a lot.
I did also get a £10 off Sönd voucher but even with that money off I can't really afford their products. I'd rather buy more lipstick anyway (I still need to repurchase Stila Baci).

thisworks In Transit Camera Close-up (20ml)

I chose this because I am looking for a new primer and this one claims to hydrate which I desperately need. It is said to banish signs of fatigue (i need a miracle), counterbalances redness (my cheeks are so red), reduce wrinkles and leave skin naturally radiant. Unfortunately it smells really strongly of something that reminds me of old people. I think it's some sort of flower I dunno but I really don't like it. It's soo strong and I don't know if I can get past it. It does make my face feel nice & smooth though but my foundation didn't apply on top of it very well. I think this one may be a no from me.

Beverly Hills Formula Perfect White Black Toothpaste

This box arrived the morning that I was trying to find the energy to go and get my toothpaste out of the car after going away. Perfect timing and I didn't have to leave my house. It's a black toothpaste formulated with activated charcoal to help remove tannins from the surface of your teeth to reduce staining. It also eliminates the bacteria that causes bad breath. My teeth have honestly never felt so clean and I may need to buy more. I was a bit disappointed that it foams up white though. Black foam would have been soo cool.

As I said I wasn't that impressed with this months box but for £8.95 it's given me some new brands to try. Here's hoping next month has some more makeup picks.

Original Source Skin Quench

5 August 2016

If you read my June Favourites you will know I am obsessed with Original Source products. I currently have about 6 shower gels on the go because I use a different one every time. They all smell incredible. I was so excited when I saw that they had brought out some new ranges. They now do Shower milks which I am dying to try. The cherry and almond one sounds magical and needs to be on my body. Then they have the Skin quench range which consists of body lotions, body butters, scrubs and shower gels. I picked up 2 of the shower gels in Superdrug.

original source skin quench

I picked up the Watermelon & Jojoba Oil as well as the Pineapple & Coconut oil shower gels. First things first they smell incredible. They are so fruity and delicious and I can't get enough. I think the watermelon one may be my favourite but it's close. Just imagine cocktails on the beach in a shower gel.

"All in One moisturising shower gel to help leave your skin feeling Quenched, nourished and revitalised. Contains natural Soft Oil beads that contain moisturising oils that burst onto your skin, leaving it feeling soft and smooth." - Original Source

If you have dry skin then you need these in your life. They are honestly so moisturising and feel soo good. I have never had a shower gel feel so soft and nourishing when applying. You can feel how moisturising it is when you rub it on your skin. Plus it smells heavenly and they're vegan. The soft oil beads add another level of hydration and I am just obsessed. My skin has been so dry recently and crying out for some nourishment and this has helped soo much. It also means I can skip moisturising sometimes which is a bonus for my lazy ass.

I don't think I will find a shower gel that I love more than these

Have you tried them yet?

Barry M Showgirl Mascara

3 August 2016

I am blessed with nice long eyelashes. One of the very few things I won in the genetic lottery. My body may fall apart but I have nice eyelashes so who's the real winner here? I tend to use mascara for it's volumising properties. I only ever really used Maybelline Volum' Express Colossal Mascara and Volum' Express Megaplush. Those 2 are definitely my faves for volume and I don't really try any others. However, when I was fulfilling my nail polish addiction one day Barry M had an offer where you got the Showgirl Mascara for free when spending a certain amount of pennies. Gotta love a freebie.

Barry M Showgirl Mascara

I was a bit dubious about trying this as its a lengthening mascara and I'm already pretty blessed in the length department (insert that's what he said joke). However, I was pleasantly surprised. After looking for a link to it I discovered that I seem to be the only person that gets loves this mascara. It has really poor reviews. This may be because my lashes are already long, I dunno, but I'm converted.

Barry M Showgirl Mascara review

First off lets talk about the packaging. While it is a bit of a bitch to photograph and is always covered in grubby fingerprints, it is really pretty. It is also really sturdy and feels much more expensive than the £4.99 price tag. The wand is a bit aggressive and I have nearly blinded myself a few times but if you concentrate on what you're doing it applies nicely with zero clumping. Seriously no clumps at all. Its nice & black and adds a good amount of length as well as lifting the lashes beautifully. It lasts all day with no flaking which is so important to me as my eyeballs attract mascara flakes and then I cry. Never fun.

Barry M Showgirl Mascara

Barry M Showgirl Mascara
Maybelline still holds my heart but as I've run out at the mo Barry M is doing the job well and I don't have any complaints. I'm definitely a fan and I would totally buy it again. It's such a bargain and it is a pretty damn amazing mascara.

What is your fave mascara?

Egg Fried Rice

1 August 2016

I am addicted to egg fried rice. It is hands down the best kind of rice. Who wants boring plain rice when you can have egg fried goodness? If I can't decide what to have for lunch, which is often, I either have a bowl of pasta or a bowl of egg fried rice. You can use it as a side or eat it on its own which I do quite a lot. Now I suck a recipe posts so brace yourself.

egg fried rice

Cooked Rice
Egg
Soy Sauce

You can add whatever you want
Pepper
Spring Onion
Peas
Sweetcorn
the list is endless

egg fried rice

Cook your rice to your liking. I use my beloved microwave rice cooker (you can buy similar here). For one person I use 1 cup of rice, 1 and 1/2 cups of water and microwave for 11 mins. When that's done I then scramble 2 eggs in a wok with some fry lite. Chuck in whatever veg you want. I usually add a yellow pepper and some spring onions. Then add in your rice and mix it all together without chucking rice everywhere. I fail at this every time. Add soy sauce to taste (I think it's like 1-2 tbsp) and ta-da. Delicious rice. It is soo easy and so quick.

Chinese is always my weakness and with trying to eat better this has helped my cravings soo much. Definitely my fave way to eat rice. I also chuck in chicken or pork (cook the meat first then add it at the end) sometimes to mix it up a bit and it is soo good. Also goes great with sweet chilli sauce.

What is your favourite lunch?
