Film Friday

18 July 2014

I've been watching films from my rather large DVD collection this week instead of Netflix and thought I'd give you some quick reviews.

The Escape Plan

Now I am a massive action girl. I'd pick an action over a chick flick any day but I'm not sure about this one. Its about a guy (Sylvester Stallone) who makes a living breaking out of prisons. Then he gets sent to one that seems unbreakable & no one knows where he is. I liked the storyline as it was different from anything I've seen but there was just so much unnecessary violence. Don't get me wrong I love a good shoot out/fight in a film but this was just over the top. Also Sylvester Stallone mumbles. I almost needed to put subtitles on to know what he was talking about. Him and Arnold Schwarzenegger have a great on screen chemistry though.
This film was okay but I've seen better.

I love any film with Jason Statham in. I mean serious eye candy although he's another one that mumbles but I'll forgive him, the body more than makes up for it. In this Jason Statham, a former DEA agent moves with his daughter to a quiet town but he soon gets mixed up with a local drug dealer (James Franco - who I know a lot of you seem to love. Don't get the attraction myself ). There's lots of action, lots of suspense, you really feel for the little girl and as with all action films it ends with a big fight. I saw this in the cinema when it came out & recently bought it & watched again because I enjoyed it so much. If you're an action fan I would definitely recommend this film

Hotel Transylvania

Animated films are my weakness. I'm such a big kid I love them. In this film Dracula opens a hotel for monsters to protect them and his teenage daughter from the humans. They all come to celebrate Mavis' 118th birthday but somehow a human gets into the hotel. All your monster favourites are there including Frakenstein, Mummy, The Invisible Man, Werewolves and so many more. There is a big cast with big names doing the voices such as Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez, Cee Lo Green, Andy Samberg, Steve Buscemi and David Spade. Its such a good film. I love it and would definitely suggest it for all animation lovers and especially for kids. Its funny as well as showing family bonds especially between a dad and his little girl. Also makes you feel a tad sorry for the monsters that we were scared of as kids and even a little guilty.

Sweet Home Alabama

Everyone loves a good chick-flick every now and then and I love this one. I put it on the other night when I wasn't feeling too good. A rising young fashion designer (Reese Witherspoon) get's engaged to New Yorks most eligible bachelor (Patrick Dempsey) but her past includes a husband in Alabama who refuses to divorce her. She heads back home to get her stubborn husband to sign the papers but then home get's to her and her fiancée's mum starts digging into her secret past. It's a really cute film with typical small town gossip and some beautiful Alabama accents :D
